LSU v Everyone

I’m BAAAACK! And, sadly, I’ve had a blog written for the Auburn, Towson and UF games for weeks, and just never sent it! So go grab a cup of coffee, popcorn, beer, whatever floats your boat. You might be here a while!

If you haven’t already – GO VOTE. Now. If for no other reason, consider this: if you don’t vote, you have no right b!tch about how stupid the winner is.

LSU v Auburn
I assumed, that with this game starting at 6 pm, I’d have an entire hour to watch LSU take a decent lead, so I could enjoy our good friends’ engagement party. Silly, silly girl. Mett drives and drops inside the 20, thwarting a sure-thing scoring drive. After that, the offense completely disappears and I have people looking at me a little disturbed, in my cute dress and heels, mumbling curses at the TV. It is shameful that I could barely stand still during the toasts, and sprinting back inside immediately following the last happy words, because I wasn’t certain my Tigers could hold on to beat the other Tigers. 12-10. REALLY?

LSU v Towson
I did not care about this game, at all. I was at the beach with my entire family, having a wonderful time. We went to out to supper, sporting our purple and gold (all of us…except for my husband…). In the heart of Alabama country, we caught grief from other fans, but how do you defend scheduling a game against Towson High? I claimed scheduling conflicts, which seemed to buy me an out to move on to the next set of Tide fans. We did get to watch some of the game thanks to the technological advances of smart phones, but mostly, I enjoyed my meal visiting with my nephew. But from what I heard, we made Towson look pretty decent.

LSU v Florida
My blood pressure just went up again, just by typing that.

Squirrel Hunt
So, I made my first squirrel hunt Saturday morning of the UF game (all-girls hunt, at that). We didn’t see a single squirrel, but we did have fun! I thought my Saturday was off to a pretty good (though early) start. After doing some house chores, I kicked back to watch…

Prediction
When asked Friday night for my prediction of Saturday’s game, I could only say that I predicted to curse a whole lot! Turns out, my prediction was incorrect. Instead, and even scarier, I sat silent, seething and facebooking (sorry about those rants).

Tigers invade the Swamp…and get stuck in the mud
I was thrilled that this game started at 2:30, as I had yet another event that night. Then, by 3 pm, I was no longer so thrilled. Offensively, the Tigers are not good.

We really could have used Troy Landry’s skill in stopping the Gators in the second half…CHOOT EM

De Ja Vu?
Saturday’s game was eerily similar to the “Game that Must not be Named”, in that the Tiger offense was non-existent. No earned first downs well into the second half, gifts from your defense that you can’t punch in for 7 points (even after two flippin time outs), terrible play calling, no offensive rhythm, just so many inexcusable mental errors from a program of this quality. My biggest beef with LSU’s continued offensive struggles is that they are always the same. It’s the only consistency we have on offense – we continue with the same mistakes, miscues, shoddy plays year after year. The lack of confidence in our offense, especially in the QB is getting old. Players have changed, coaches have changed, there’s only 1 constant, and he’s who should shoulder the blame. Either he's not recruiting the right guys or he's screwing with their psyche. Or he’s just too damned hard-headed to tailor his game plan to meet the abilities of the team on the field. However you spin it, we’ve got issues.

United We Stand
Divided, we are falling…hard. I wouldn’t blame the defense if they are a little peeved at the offense. I mean, they are playing lights out on defense, and the offense is letting them down. I don’t do statistics, but I bet the defense took 75% of the snaps in Florida game. The offense couldn’t muster a sustained drive to save their life, and earning first downs seem to be a thing of the past, causing the defense to have little to no time to rest/recover.

Minter
Overshadowed by a horrific offensive effort was Kevin Minter’s coming out party. A quiet but solid presence in the middle of the LBs, Minter’s effort Saturday was loud and proud. He made play after play to keep the Tigers in the game, but, as with the rest of the defense, eventually ran out of gas. For 3 quarters, he was really, really special.

Awful
I can’t decide what is more awful – the O Line or the WR core, as a whole. I actually, stupidly, felt fairly confident about both groups heading into Game 1. I realize the O Line has had some injuries, but I can’t believe they are as bad as they are. I’ve criticized Mett quite a bit but I think his O Line and WRs had a lot to do with our lack of offensive anything on Saturday. Ususally, it seems, an mediocre O Line either blocks well for the run or the pass, just not both. We do neither well. It’s amazing (in a bad way) to me that by losing 1 person to injury, the entire group is in shambles. Got a million talented RBs? Doesn’t matter if they don’t have holes to run through.

And now that I’m all keyed up, let’s talk WRs. Abysmal. Sure they’re young, so I’ll excuse some of the terrible route running, but they can’t catch! How can the #3 team in the nation start WRs that CAN’T CATCH?

OVERRATED
Yes, I am calling my own team out as overrated. I’m just being honest. I truly believe the Tigers have the talent to be a top 5 team, but they have not played like one at any time this year. We’re almost halfway through the season (or maybe we are there, I lost count), and we have not put together one complete game against, except for the Gators, far inferior opponents. Even if they would have squeaked by the Gators, LSU does not deserve to be in the top 5 right now. I hope, by season’s end, I’ll be proud of the year-end ranking, but it’ll have to be earned, as it should.

Congrats to Brees and the Saints
After a wonderful 2 hour nap on Sunday, I was actually able to stay up and watch most of the Saints game. I love watching historical sports moments, even if not in person. I was hoping Drew would throw the record breaking TD before my bed time, and so that it took the pressure off of him. I was not disappointed with the early TD. It was even more awesome that the TD catch was made by LSU’s Devery Henderson. What a great accomplishment for Brees, especially in a win over the team that threw him to the curb! And yay for the Saints to get out of the 0-for column and getting that first win!

NFL Goes Pink
I always enjoy seeing the pink across the NFL during October. These guys are proud to sport obnoxious amounts of pink accessories, to support breast cancer awareness. One of the best PR moves in NFL history.

Random
Why is that you can no longer find a fresh loaf of bread? No matter the brand, store, day, time of day, etc that I buy, I get home and the damn thing is half-stale already. If it is moderately fresh, that only lasts 1 day. So annoying! (can you tell I just made a sandwich)

LSU v. South Carolina and Texas A&M
So, as I write this, weeks after the games, I decided to group them together, because of how similar I think the games were. We shut down national attention-getting offensive players on both teams, defense kept us in it and we pulled it out. Carolina came in ranked #3, and with a highly touted defense and one of the best running backs in the game. LSU showed the potential it has to be great. Just got to get everything clicking at once.

South Carolina
A bottled up Lattimore, and another strong defensive effort helped LSU overcome another anemic offensive performance. This being a home game was also a major contributing factor for the Tigers pulling out the W. Side note: we had some friends over to watch the game. On Friday, I get a text saying “Hopefully it’s better than last week (Florida).” To which I replied, “I sure hope so…or your kids will leave with a new vocabulary.” Sad but true that in the first quarter of the game, LSU turns the ball over (or something equally as curse-worthy) and I let the “S” word fly…quick, sharp, and not all that audible. However, the most adorable 1 ½ year old LSU cheerleader promptly repeats… “Chit.” Oops, sorry guys!

Texas A&M
A bottled up Manziel, and another strong defensive effort helped LSU overcome another anemic offensive performance (I see a pattern developing). I would have like for this game to be a beat down, because I was real busy preparing to host the best wedding party ever (skeet shoot, gumbo, brisket, and lots of beer). However, I was kinda glad I was too busy to watch the game, because I probably would have just been mad. We made A&M look like they deserved to be in the SEC in the first quarter. They terrorized our ferocious D and, of course, we couldn’t generate any offense. Nice job by the Defense for making the necessary adjustments to slow A&M down enough for our offense to put up a few points more than the other guys.

Off Week
I didn’t watch a single football game all weekend! Busy Saturday, lazy day by the fire on Sunday. Very enjoyable!

Ok, here goes…

LSU v. Bama

Honesty is the Best Policy
I’m just gonna get this out there now – I thought LSU would lose pretty big. Anybody that asked my opinion, pre-game, got this: If LSU can sustain drives, and keep our defense off the field and rested, we have a shot. Continued 3 and outs…no way we can win. Well, lo and behold, what happens…we sustain drives, have a rested defense, turn out by far the best team effort of the season, and almost pull out a HUGE win. So glad I was wrong (for once).

Warning:
I do refer to Alabama by Bama, instead of the “team that must not be named” or “Buma” for this blog ONLY. I am so darned proud of our LSU Tigers and the effort they showed, and I really think it was a great game, so, I’m going with a charitable mood and giving Bama a break this week.

Peer Pressure
So, I really didn’t want to go to this game. I was more than happy staying in the crowd/traffic-free country to watch the game in my living room. However, Thursday morning started early with calls and texts from both of my younger siblings. They ganged up on me and persuaded me to take the extra ticket and go to the game. I went. Terrible influences. Proceeded to have some adult beverages, and have a few snatches of time that are missing from my memory. We had a blast. Minus the loss, post-game migraine, dad leaving me and my sister at LSU (miscommunication) and not getting home until 1 am, it was a great night. But, I’m way too old for this chit.

Big W and Little w
The scoreboard reflected Alabama got the win, but I think LSU and the LSU fans got a win too. I can’t speak for all Tiger fans, but my frustrations (see all above) this season have come from seeing the potential this team has, but not meeting that potential. Proof: LSU beat Bama. The scoreboard doesn’t show it, but take out 2 big plays by Bama, a few ill-advised/just plain stupid calls by our coach, and LSU dominated the Tide. Potential achieved!!! Keep it up. The SEC got a win too, with Bama’s win. The potential to keep the streak of SEC National Championships is still alive. (Face it, even with an LSU win, it would have taken a 2007-like miracle for LSU to get in the big game and even Miles isn’t lucky enough to have that happen again).

Coaching
Well, the Mad Hatter finally lost his magic touch. The gambles that have defined his success at LSU failed him miserably at the worst of times. Wildcat on fourth and 1…bad idea. Fake field goal on fourth and forever…STUPID. I actually don’t mind the on-side kick. If we get it, terrific, but we didn’t and the momentum was finally in our favor, the crowd was rocking, so I would think twice about that one again. Best thing I heard was if LSU played Bama straight up, Tigers win. True Dat.

Coaching 2
The Chief has made some great in-game adjustments this year. A&M was a great example of this. I really don’t blame the LSU D for giving up the final TD. They blitz, had pretty good coverage deep, trying not to get beat long, but the RB was left alone…again. It was, by far, one of Bama’s best plays all game long, and we didn’t cover it...again. Good play call.

Not so impressed
It’s funny (not in a ha, ha way) but Bama didn’t look all that impressive, but I have to think that LSU played a big part of that. No doubt we were the toughest games on each other’s schedules, and both came to play. I think LSU looked better throwing the ball (yep, I said that!) and defensively I don’t think anyone is superior to our boys. Jeremy Hill is lighting it up and running hard. But, as good as our running backs are, I have to give credit to Bama’s backers, because they were Bama’s offense. That Yeldon is fast in the open field.

Not so impressed 2
The Million Dollar band. First, why in the he!! Do they get to play at halftime? And good lawd, could they have traveled with any more members. Biggest travelling band I’ve ever witnessed. Good things don’t necessarily come in large quantities, however, because the lines this band put out there were as crooked as the Mississippi river. I was so glad to see the Golden Band from Tigerland take the field. I watched carefully, and they made me proud!

QBs
Well hello there Zach, we’ve been waiting a long time for you. Mettenberger finally got his groove on and made some really nice throws. The receivers started a little shaky, but finished strong. By far the best game ever for the pitch and catch group. As for AJ McCarron…I could say he’s not that special, and I’d be right. But, as a Tiger fan whose witnessed 2 national championships led by good game-managing QBs (read: nothing special), I know that AJ is exactly what Saban’s team needs to go for another championship.

We Crossed the 50!
Yep, our offense moved the ball to the fifty…and beyond (funnier if you say it like “Toy Story”…to infinity and beyond). This was a big deal to a lot of people, considering our meager offensive numbers the last time we played the Tide. I didn’t care so much. It’s the final score that counts.

Scout’s Honor
I know the boy scouts do some great things in the community. And I also know that they are “just” volunteer ushers at the LSU Games, but C’mon man, you advised me to walk down an entire row packed with people, seconds before kickoff, only to have been the WRONG SECTION. Me, new to the south endzone, a little impaired, knew better than you. Don’t you worry, I made sure everyone I stepped on knew it was your fault, and not mine.

Saints
Stuart Scott of ESPN. What’s up with that guy’s face? It doesn’t move. It looks like a wax figure. It creeps me out. Sad to see Darren Sproles go down. Time for Ingram to earn his paycheck and if not, Ivory will gladly take your spot! O, and the defense has been terrible. Good thing Vick is worse. He made the Saints D look like the Bears D.

Cajun Cannon
Speaking of Saints, Bobby Hebert is in trouble again. He was booted from the LSU press box Saturday for cheering. Cheering for either team is a huge NO, NO, in what is supposed to be an unbiased press box. This guy is a nut, but I love that he didn’t give a rip about the rules and cheered on the Tigers (and the Coach who he reamed out after last year’s NC game…in the press conference, no less).

Wing
Well, Mr All-American, where yat? We thought TM7 would be the biggest loss to the special teams, but Wing’s inconsistency and Alleman’s shankitis have been pretty disappointing.

Paint you a picture
So, picure this. I’m in a section I’ve never sat in before, with older gentlemen behind me and to my left (certainly not on my right, Uncle Tommy). Then, the student section busts out in two obscene chants, of which the older gentlemen couldn’t decipher. Of course, they asked me what they said and I had to repeat lots of sucking, effing and saban, all paraphrased to the best of my ability. AWKWARD. And just to be a little sanctimonious in my old age, c’mon students, could you be less classy?

Rockin’
No doubt, Tiger Stadium was about as rocking as I’ve ever seen it! Largest crowd, great game, against the hated Nick Saban and his #1 Tide. Kudos to the fans and the players on a hard fought loss.

Bama Fan
I don’t like Bama, but I will be a Bama fan the rest of the season. More than wanting Bama to win the NC again, I want the SEC to keep the streak alive. Because next year, the Tigers will be adding to the streak!

Tooting my Own Horn
So I’m pretty damn impressed with myself for putting together a blog of a game I didn’t really see much of (it’s hard to really watch the game from the stands), and considering I don’t remember much of, since I never (seriously, never) drink in excess when it comes to LSU football games, and I was a bit excessive Saturday. I’m pretty sure I didn’t curse that much and I didn’t end up make too much of an @$$ out of myself, so, good times.

Shamelessly Plugging, but for someone else!!!
What can I say…I’m a giver. Now, I’m plugging my brother’s house that’s for sale. Spread the word! http://fsbobr.com/default.asp?f=listing_details&listingid=323167

LSU v Idaho – Week 3

So, didn’t think I’d be sending a blog this week? Me neither. This weekend and week have been non-stop, but I’ve used the few snatches of free time to hammer out a half-a$$ attempt at this blog. Plus, it’s doubtful I’ll be able to put something together for the next 3 games, since I’ll have limited viewing of all three, so I felt obliged to get something out.

Please know, regardless of how busy I’ve been, getting motivated to write about a football game against the Idaho Taters is ridiculously difficult. Content below may be sub-par – you have been warned!

Taters
I’m a fan of potatoes. A big fan. So, I guess that makes me a fan of Idaho, in a round-about way. I was pulling for the Spuds to at least have a decent showing, and test our previously un-tested Tiger squad. No luck there. The Spuds got an early gift of an INT returned to their own 5, but really, didn’t muster much of an attack. Can you say “mashed potatoes?”

French Fries
I just realized I ate French fries twice on Saturday. And LSU played Idaho. Coincidence or just terrible eating habits? Discuss amongst yourselves.

Mett’s INT
Just terrible. Utilizing the revolutionary invention “rewind,” I went back several times to see if I could see what Mett saw, and I can tell you that the throw was ill-advised, to say the least. Everyone was covered, and he didn’t even try to force it to one of his teammates, instead gifting it to the Tater “D”. Kudos to owning up to your mistakes, but don’t make any more!

Shep = “Stone Hands”
O Russell Shepherd, you really are not a good receiver. I hereby dub you “Stone Hands”, a nickname you have unsuccessfully earned. After a couple drops again in this game, I repeated to my BIL what I wrote in a previous blog about Shep (Since he didn’t read it). You cannot throw the ball to RS. You have to gingerly place the ball in his hands. After that, he’s pretty good. And LSU ran one of those sweeps with him in which Mett does exactly that – places the ball ever so softly into RS’s paws, then, let him run. I think we should implement more RS plays like that, instead of looking to throw to him, if he has to be involved. It really is uncomfortable to watch him try to catch…

D’s INT
FOUR interceptions by the defense. 0 Sacks. What is the identity of this defense? Look, I’m not complaining because I think overall they are a great unit that is improving with every week. It’s just interesting to me that our strength was supposed to be our line with a weaker secondary, but every other week the other unit steps up and shines. This is a fabulous problem to have!

No HoneyBadger?
No Problem. Martin seemed to step up as the ball hawk we’ve been missing without TM7. I honestly can’t tell you if he played well, but he was in the exact right spot for 2 INTs, and he took one to the house. Credit Collins with an assist on Martin’s second INT. He made a nice deflection right to RM.

Gobble Gobble
Edwards pick six reminded me of a hungry pilgrim, having a thanksgiving turkey thrown in his face. He gobbled up that pick and rumbled into the endzone. Hey, that’s one more TD catch than Shep has…what, too soon?

TigerVision
$40, seriously, for Idaho? Why do they charge so much, and more importantly, why do we keep paying? Terrible graphics – the best description I saw on FB was that the picture was like watching TV without your contacts. How spoiled are we that even though I watched a 60 inch TV, I was still disgusted that it wasn’t in HD! As many on FB pointed out, my cell phone records in HD, for crying out loud!

Cocky Fool
Watching the game on TV, I got an up close view of the Idaho QB’s attempts at riling up the home crowd. Backed up deep in his own endzone, this fool goes to bobbing his head and “welcoming” the deafening noise aimed in his direction, all with a smirky grin on his face. O, you think that’s funny, do you, taunting our fans? Well, let me tell you what I found HYSTERICAL. 3 consecutive false start penalties, backing you up inside your own 5. AAAHAHAHAHA! You asked for it.

BLUUUUEEE
So he’s out this week, and will be out for a while. Such a shame. It’s not that we don’t have a stable of capable back ups but the kid was having a great year, so far. I wish him a speedy and successful recovery.

The Cardinal Rules
The Stanford Cardinal just flat out tarnished the golden boy. I didn’t watch the whole game (priorities…LSU was on!), but at the end of the game the USC line couldn’t block the Stanford defenders to save Barkley’s life. Sure, the Cards were playing a prevent defense, and the play takes longer to develop, but he was pummeled. I saw his stat line. Not good. Everyone has an off week, but that was very inopportune for USC. I loved it!

Arkansas Beatdown
The team that must not be named took yet another team behind the woodshed and held them to 0 points. Sure, Arkansas has some serious issues, but the team that must not be named is simply destroying everyone in their paths. Do I think they are better than the Tigers? Hard to say at this point since both teams are playing inferior opponents, but when you’re 1 and 2 in the nation, isn’t everyone inferior?

Aints Woes
Man I hate losing to Scam Newton. Though the offense looks a little out of sorts, they did plenty enough to win. It’s that swiss cheese defense that is a huge problem. They are a deplorable unit. I had higher hopes than last year for this group, with the addition of Coach Spag, but they are awful to watch. I think we’re in for a long season.

100 Million Dollar Man
So, is Drew Brees worth it? Well, no way he earned a million dollars for each of the first two games (yea, I did the math, based on an 18 game schedule). Hopefully he’ll earn what I feel he owes the Saints over the rest of the season.

Check Your Calendar
I was unaware that there could be any person living within a 100 mile radius of LSU, that isn’t an LSU fan. But, alas, they apparently exist. When planning a fall event, rule #1 with just about everyone I know is to check the LSU football schedule. I have events on the next 2 Saturday nights. This w/e, playing Auburnt, not such a big deal, but the Florida game…really? And I CHOSE to host a wedding party the day of the A&M Game. What is this world coming to? Look, I got married on a Saturday during football season, and the most important aspect in picking a date was LSU’s opponent and estimating game time (ULM, 7 pm kickoff, 1:00 wedding – holla!). I’ve already warned everyone involved in the wedding party that I will not be the hostess with the mostest while the game is on! I just want to sit and watch football!

iPhone DYK
Did you know that if you have an iPhone, even for a mere 2 hours, that the SECOND you step out of the doors of ATT (or other service provider), any issues with the phone have to be addressed by Apple? Me neither and I found out the hard way. Decided to use the few extra hours I had pre-game to upgrade my mom’s phone to an iPhone 4S. 2 hours after purchasing it quit working. So, 30 minutes before kickoff me and my BIL rushed to the only ATT still open only to be told we had to go to Apple. They wanted to make a reservation with an Apple “Genius” for 8:00 – um no, the game is on. Lots of commotion and an insane amount of back and forth, but mom is all set!

ULM
I predicted a ULM win over Auburnt, and man, I was almost right. IMO, Auburt is extremely lucky to get out of that game with an OT win. Lots of credit to the ULM squad for playing two great games against the “far superior” SEC.

Prediction
Again, this game is a no-brainer. Auburnt has looked horrible, and their 1-2 W/L record should really be .5 – 2.5 because they barely squeaked by ULM this past weekend. I don’t expect them to give LSU much of a challenge but we do get some increased speed and an away game atmosphere. Since it’s the SEC opener, I will actually make a score prediction. LSU 45, Auburnt 10. Is the Florida game here yet?

LSU v Washington 2012

U-Dub Drubbing
Well, well, hello LSU Tigers. So nice to see you! I thought the Tigers looked really good as a whole. Offensively and defensively, and of course special teams, the Tigers took a big step toward fulfilling the pre-season hype. Yes, there is plenty of room for improvement, and we’ve played two inferior opponents, so it’s kinda hard to judge, but I was much happier with the Week 2 Tigers, than Week 1.

Bad Omen?
Ok , so after the Tigers looked flat last week, it could have been a bad omen when OBJ fumbled the opening kickoff. Your star of Game 1 makes a big mistake right out the gate…lack of focus or just a good hit? I can imagine he was pretty jacked up to start the game, as he should be, but a mistake like that could be debilitating. Kudos to the “D” for only allowing a FG.

Stone Hands?
Things got worse before they got better for OBJ, bless his heart. So, he fumbles the opening kickoff…ok, shake it off. Then, you drop three big passes. You have to worry about his psyche at that point. Do we have another Devery “Stone Hands” Henderson on our hands? Nah. OBJ will be fine. He made a great leaping grab, and had a few other nice plays to get back on the horse. Hey, wouldn’t you rather his drops come in Week 2 v. U-Dub, than Nov 3? He’s too good to let mistakes like that happen often, so we’re moving on! But if you want to label a “stone hands,” see Russell Shepherd below…

A Case of the Drops
So close to perfection for Mett. 6 incompletions, with 5, five, FIVE! of those dropped. And one for a TD (more on RS later). I thought Mett’s passes were good balls. Not all perfect, but so very catchable. ‘Cmon Man!

SHEP…
So, each year I guess I have to have one player to bash. The last 4 years I’ve been (un)fortunate enough to have the former Tiger QBs as my whipping boys. No doubt, this year’s MBP (Most Bashable Player) will be Russell Shepherd. RS is possibly the most disappointing recruit in recent memory, well, at least the most disappointing that has stayed on the team and that the coaches continue to play. I thought the role of WR was the best fit for RS, but he can’t catch, so that creates obvious issues… Want to argue that point, first ask yourself – if he’s got good hands, why isn’t he our punt/kick returner? He’s got the play making ability, but you have to hand him the ball gingerly, it’s not going to happen if you throw it at him. I can’t understand why we think he has to be on the field…because he was a prize recruit 4 years ago??? He dropped a TD that hit him in the chest, though it would have been a tough play. Seriously dude, you dropped a TD that hit you in the numbers…good Lawd! I hope he proves me wrong!

Shut Out
UW was supposed to be able to move the ball on LSU, at least a little. Even the experts agreed they’d at least find the end zone once with their talented QB. No one considered that the Tigers defense would come to play as well as they did. Pressure, sacks, stops and interceptions were the name of the game Saturday. Negative running yards allowed for most of the game was pretty cool too! So yes, I believe this Tiger D should be credited with a Shut Out. The only UW score came on a FG off of a fumbled KO. That’s not the defense’s fault. They didn’t let UW get any closer, and forced them to kick a FG. That’s a huge win, especially right out the gate. I give the Tiger D a bagel – who’s with me?

Mett
Ok, so Mett proved a little more to me this week. It’s always good to take a step forward after another week of practice. He looked good, confident, strong, in control! Control, you say…out of the QB position? I know, Tigers Fans, it’s hard to get comfortable watching a QB play with such efficiency. You keep waiting for a delay of game, INT for a TD, etc, but they didn’t come. Again, I know this was “just” UW, but I’m very encouraged by what I saw out of Mett Saturday. Three more far inferior games before we play someone decent (Auburn is definitely in the category of inferior – did you see that crap against MSU?), so plenty of time for Mett to build on what he has begun. He won’t always have the plush stats of this weekend, but as long as he stays in control, we’ll be fine. Keep it up!

Frosh
LSU is young. We have multiple Freshmen getting playing time. And doing well. Mills is looking better and better the longer he stays on the field. The future looks bright yall!

Schedule
Dear Anyone that Makes the LSU Schedule,
This schedule sucks. Three of the Home games are against teams that shouldn’t be. I didn’t even know they PLAYED football in Idaho. And, other than the UTube video of them scoring against themselves, have you ever heard of Towson? UW could have been a better game, it just wasn’t their year, and I’m ok with opening with N Texas, but not to be followed by more crappy games. It’s insulting to the fans that have to cough up the stupid amounts of money for these weak games just to get to watch the 3 good games (or just the 1, on Nov 3, against the “team that must not be named”). These shoddy games should be free admission to anyone that has nothing better to do than sit through a scrimmage with fireworks.

It’s also insulting to the players. I can’t blame them for coming out flat. I mean, honestly, how pumped would you be for Idaho? I would rather have someone like Michigan State or Virginia Tech on the schedule before we open SEC play. At least it would be entertaining to beat someone from a Bowl Conference. I’d rather a bye week than wasting my time drinking and cheering for a terrible game. At least maybe the 100 events that’re packed on my calendar LSU’s off weekend could be spread out some! Grrrrrr…

Football Board Blues
I’m thrilled the Tigers won. I’m thrilled they won in such convincing fashion. But really UW, you had to score your only points of the game in the first 2 minutes, ruining the football board for 90% of the participants? I mean, if you weren’t on the line for UW-3, you weren’t winning. I’m not complaining, I did win last week, but still…

That Wing…
Brad Wing was back punting this week, and though he didn’t have many opportunities, he made the most of them. The guy is good. The 62-yarder (supposedly into the wind) was fancy, and the 2nd punt was a touchback, but pretty enough. He’s a huge weapon. I think I have my first kicker-crush!

OMG, it’s The Honey Badger!
Like, OMG, TM7/HB is in the HIZZOUSE. Yea, I already regret typing that. Anyway, ESPN was obsessed with Tyrann Mathieu’s presence at the game. I was glad to see him cheering the team on, but really, did we have to see him after every play that he might have been a part of? There were probably 2000+ weed-smoking college juniors in those stands, so really for what he offers as a fan, he’s not so special right now. I mean, he didn’t even bother to wear one of the many free purple/gold tshirts he’s been given to support the Tigers. I’m glad he was there. But folks, can we just get over it already?

Up in the Polls
So LSU finally puts the beat down on a team and played a dominant game against a lesser opponent. The pollsters agreed with me that LSU showed a little of the pre-season hype, so the Tigers moved ahead of USC in one poll. This top 3 will go back and forth all year long, based on who they play, and how much they win by. All I know is that I don’t want to be #1…right now, that is.

Can I get $200?
Special thanks to our party hosts for the game. Big screen, good food, good times! Unfortunately, our auctioneer was not able to raise enough money for that new HD projector (or 60” HD TV), but I give him an “E” for effort!

ULM!!!
How about that. ULM beats Arkansas. Roughing up their star QB and playing to the end in a really great effort. I predict a 2nd SEC win over Auburn. Yes, seriously. If you don’t believe me find a replay of Aub’s game. FUGLY. Doesn’t bode well for our strength of schedule in the SEC West…

A&M/Mizzou
Welcome to the SEC! The pageantry was top-notch, the excitement and pride was there…BUT…the delusional belief that they would come in and win that first conference game was a little premature. Don’t get me wrong, both came out at the bell swinging, riding that emotion and trying to make a statement. However, there is always a second half that follows the first, and they just don’t have it in the tank quite yet to finish. And Mizzou – those unis are just plain awful.

RG3
The Saints allowed RG3 look like an NFL MVP. The ‘Skins had a great game plan, no doubt, but the Saints D looked like swiss cheese. Coach Spag, if that’s the best plan you got, we’re in deep trouble.

‘Aints?
I am not being a fair-weather fan, writing off the Saints after one really rough loss. However, that was a tough game to watch. The defense is no better than they were last year, no surprise there, but the offense was the biggest disappointment. No rhythm, no flow, 3 and outs, just ugly. And Colston fumbling on his way to a TD was a dagger. This game really seemed like a comedy of errors and that the Saints couldn’t do anything right. It’s like Isaac washed away all of the Katrina magic from the Dome. Guess its time for the Who Dats to make their own magic!

LSU v Idaho Prediction
I predict that there will be a lot of baked potatoes eaten in honor of our opponent. That’s all I’ve got. I really can’t muster enough excitement to even predict the score. Blah.

Week 1 2012: LSU v N Texas

So, I’ve decided to break the silence. After the debacle in the “Game that Must Not Be Named”, I couldn’t write anything PG rated, especially that wasn’t alredy thought, said, tweeted, posted, blogged, etc by someone else. To sum up the “Game that Must Not Be Named” in one word today, I would use embarassing. So, let’s move on!

LSU: 2012 Edition
With the Tiger faithful anxious to put the “Game that Must Not Be Named” behind them, the mood in the stadium was exciting. There was a hum of anticipation and talk of how good it will be to have a QB (and not a QB controversy), the potential of the front 7 of our defense, and our limitless supply of starter-caliber running backs. From the Golden Band’s first notes of pre-game, until about mid-way throught he first quarter, the game was fun. Then, it turned into a time-out infused beating for me.

QB Starved
It would be an understatement to say that LSU fans are starved for a quarterback that can be entrusted to manage a game, against quality opponents, while utilizing the various weapons around you. Zach Mettengbergers ovations, anytime his name was mentioned or his face appeared on the jumbo tron, were loud and enthusiastic. At least in the beginning…

Captains
Taking the field representing your peers as one of their captains says a lot of how highly these four boys are regarded. It was a very good sign, to me at least, to see the LSU starting QB as one of four captains chosen by the Team. Your QB must be a leader, but also must be respected by the team and coaches.

Mike’s impersonation of Les
As interst in the game dwindled early and often for me, my attention turned to Mike the Tiger for entertainment and he didn’t disappoint. He appeared dressed as Coach Miles, complete with windbreaker and ill-fitting white cap. It was funny, but it was missing something. Needed grass…

Creepy Tiger Eyes
The Video Jumbo Tron in the North endzone is something to see. LSU utilizes this nugget of technology to introduce the starters. High def images of each player appear as the player is introduced. A new wrinkle is each player appearing with tiger eyes and face, morphing into their actual eyes and face. As cool as it is, it is kinda creepy. Our TAF fees at work.

You’re my boy, Blue
Tiger fans sometimes get a bad rap for being “fair-weathered,” only supporting our team when they’re winning. Just to set the record straight for anyone watching on TV that couldn’t tell, the LSU faithful are not “booing” running back Alfred Blue. In fact, we are showing our support and love after each successful run by the talented running back, using his last name as a rally-cry: BLUUUUUUEEEE!

Innocent Until Proven Guilty
This old adage is tried and true. The key part of this phrase is “Prove”. I keep going back to this phrase anytime Mett is mentioned as LSU’s savior at QB. (And not because of his prior legal issues.) As talented as he may be, we don’t know yet what his legacy at LSU will be. Will he be the answer to our QB deficincies of year’s past? If so, he needs to PROVE it.

SWA
There is NO DOUBT that Mett is very confident in his abilities as a QB. Just ask him. But, being a successful quarterback takes more than just self-confidence. It also takes talent, preparation, your team’s trust and execution. Without these things collectively, all that SWAGGER is useless…all you’re left with is just some SWA.

I Hate the Red Hat
When I am at home, I love a TV game. When I’m at the game, I hate a TV game. When the “man in the red hat” takes the field, signaling a TV timeout, it makes me want to take him out at the knees, Tanya Harding style. Saturday’s game seemed to be the worst ever. It seemed at every opportunity ESPNU was taking a commercial break, and they lasted forever. Pair the long commercials with an uninsteresting game and quite possibly, it was the Slowest. Game.EVER.

OBJ
Most years, a new player emerges in Game 1 that will have a huge impact on the Tigers’ season. (See Tyrann Mathieu vs Oregon in 2011). Odell Beckham, Jr is Mr 2012. Making a splash as punt returner, returning two for a TD (yes, I know one was negated, but that shouldn’t diminish his effort), and further cementing hisself as the go –to receiver, OBJ is going to be a pivotal part of LSU’s success this season.

I LOATHE You
O the bubble screen, how I loathe you! It started out innocently as just a little annoyance in the first quarter, but as the frequency of this play increased, the higher on my hate meter this play rose. Until, finally, it boiled over onto loathing. And we’re just in the first week of the season. It’s going to be a long, bubbly season.

Fast, Faster, Fastest
This little English lesson could easily be a description of the LSU’s defensive front 7. The interior lineman are fast. The Linebackers seem faster. And there is no doubt that the defenseive ends are fastest in the land. No one will run on LSU this year. Passing, that’s another story…

Sacked
Never in my wildest dreams would I be writing that the hardest sack, and the only sacks recorded, in this game would be by North Texas. LSU’s highly taughted defense didn’t register a sack, while I was in attendance. (I did leave early, b/c I was BORED). Mett took a shot to the chest that I witnessed on replay from the consession stand (yummm, nachos). With a secondary that has been forced to play some untested players, it will be extremely important that our front 7 make it more difficult on the opposing QB to get that pass off. And soon. Washington’s going to exploit any DB weaknesses.

Reid
Eric Reid is the face of LSU football. He is a great person and student, and a heckuva safety…as long as he doesn’t have to cover 1 on 1. He got burned several times when the corner blitzed and he was left to cover the receiver. Loston didn’t help much, grossly overplaying on one play in particular. See above on how our front 7 have to get pressure on the QB, especially when we send 8.

Australian Rules
With Brad Wing visibly limping, LSU was forced to rely on Aussie2.0 for punting. Add this to the Ooops section below, but the first punt of the season was almost a disaster. The snap was high, but Aussie2.0 whiffed at the catch and had the ball go over his head, forcing him to scramble, scoop, close his eyes (I’m not sure this actually happened, but I can imagine he probably did) and swing his leg wildly, connecting with the foosball and exactly the right time. And he got a good bounce, too. Lucky Mate.

Mettenberger
Could LSU finally shake the cloud of shoddy QB play in recent years with the emergence of the Mettsiah? Largely unproven, but extremely talented and confident, Zach Mettenberger could be a good QB. But, against N Texas, he wasn’t the best player on the field. He double clutched often, over threw receivers, held the ball too long (he probably learned his lesson on that one), and the INT at the goal line, right in front of me, was BAD. But, he seemed to be a leader, made some nice throws, showed toughness. I do think he has a ways to go, but he didn’t need to do much against N Texas.

WR
Mett came out a little anxious, I think, putting a little to much on the first big throw, but enter the acrobatic talent of Jarvis Landry. A one-handed grab for a first down, and a tough two-handed grab late in the game showed some of the potential he has to complement OBJ. Imagine when Mett hits them in stride, in the numbers…these guys will be good.

RBs
Surprise…LSU likes to run the ball. I’m finally getting on-board with this run-first concept. Of course, it’s easy to enjoy with Kenny Hilliard, Alfred Blue, Michael Ford and eventually, Spencer Ware. There are two other guys, Hill and Magee that aren’t to shabby and a fullback the size of Hurricane Isaac. Two 100 yard rushers in one game for the first time in 5 years. Clearly the strength of the offense. Lucky for this group, this year’s passing game may actually be a threat to opposing defenses, which will allow the RBs some breathing room, b/c they won’t be able to stack the box. Props to Keith, who sits behind us, for making this prediction: LSU will lead the SEC in rushing TDs. I agree!

O-No Line
It’s hard to complain about an offensive line that paved the way for 2 100-yard rushers and over 500 yards of offense, but, they weren’t that spectacular in pass protection. N Texas got too much pressure on Mett. Come on big boys, tighten up!

Oops…
As usual, the first game of the season was riddled with mishaps. Well documented are the abundance of LSU penalties and the Isaac damaged scoreboard in the South Endzone, but how about the lesser recognized blunders: As the Golden Band from Tiger Land took the field, the drum major, alone on a island, leading the band, dropped his baton as he marched toward midfield. DOH! On the opening kickoff, LSU’s kickoff specialist Hairston, could be spotted scrambling to pick up the tee before the first offensive play could be run. Guess they didn’t discuss who’s responsibility “tee recovery” would be. Note: an LSU assistant was seen fetching said tee for the remainder of the game. Not to be outdone, the North Texas tee fetcher made a mad dash to recover their tee after their first kickoff. As he hustled off the field, and hit the sideline, he took quite a spill onto his keester. (Didn’t witness this personally but by the reaction of the crowd, more than a handful of people did. It sounded like someone had tried to go over the big red balls on “Wipeout”) OOOUUUCH.

Overall
This was one boring-a$$ game. I was yawning by half-time, after drinking a coke (which is big b/c caffeine usually has me bouncing off the walls!). I understand that LSU didn’t want to “tip their hand” by running any plays that weren’t more flavorfull than plain ol’ vanilla. But, for the love of Mike the Tiger, could we at least make this entertaining? Seriously the most memorable thing I’ll take away from this game is that it was the first time I’ve ever eaten jalepnos on my nachos. Why haven’t I done that before? So tasty.

Anyway, I wasn’t overly impressed with the Tigers. It’s the same gripe I’ve had every time we play a lesser oponent in the Les Miles era – we only do what has to be done to win. Unlike “The team that must not be named” and those pretty-boys from S. Cali who both took their lesser opponents to the woodshed. Instead we come out flat…Dominant is one word not in our vocabulary.

LSU v Ole Miss and Arkansas

This blog is another 2 for 1. The Ole Miss game gave little to inspire me to write an entire blog, along with the short, busy week leading up to the Arkansas game. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday full of family, food, and giving thanks.

LSU v Ole Miss

Yummmmmm…

My best memory from the Ole Miss game is the food. Bacon wrapped duck breasts and sausage then yummy gumbo and sweet potatoes. Much love to my hubby and brother for doing the cooking. Hey, a girl’s got priorities, and when LSU’s on TV, food is a distant #2.

Stats

As Ole Miss took the field to start the game, CBS threw up some stats about the Rebels QB. Sure he was the back up (how do we keep playing backups), but he didn’t have a positive TD/INT ratio. Before the first snap I predicted that LSU’s D would score 3 TDs. Three plays later it looked like I was a genius. Then the fumble recovery for a TD made me look like Einstein. Sure, my prophecy wasn’t fully realized, but it was fun to think it might!

The Big 5-0

Contrary to popular belief, Les Miles is NOT allergic to scoring more than 50 points. Though it seems like we stymie our own offense when we start knocking on 50’s door, the Tigers broke through. Hey, when you score so fast and furious, its inevitable to score over 50. It’s not like they could just kneel down the entire fourth quarter…or can they?

Kneel Down

Sure, I thought it was a fairly classy move…no need to run up the score. So, why, on the previous play, was a naked bootleg called? I thought Mett scored, but it was called short of the goal line…then we kneel? Just a little confusing.

Prediction: LSU v Arkansas

I’m nervous about this game. I know we have a fantastic defense, but can we score enough points offensively to win? I say yes. LSU 24, Arkansas 17.

LSU v Arkansas

#88

First, a moment to reflect on the young man from Arkansas who died suddenly last Sunday. From everything I’ve read he was a good football player but a better person, who was proud to play for the Razorbacks. Such a tragedy to lose someone so young.

Senior Day

LSU said goodbye to a group of seniors who have been instrumental in getting the program where it is today. These are guys that spent 4+ years dedicated to the Tigers, and its always sad to see them go. This year, there may be one exception…good riddance.

12-0!

When the season began I really never would have thought LSU, with the toughest schedule I’ve ever seen, would come out of the regular season unscathed. I hoped for 11-1 and would even be thrilled with 10-2, but undefeated? Not so much. Dominating each and every opponent (ok with 1 exception)? Not on your life. This team is special, maybe the best ever. One game at a time.

My O My

This game didn’t start off too well. I cursed a blue streak well into the second quarter. I am just so frustrated by our offense’s inability to move the ball early in the game. Is there no game plan? Our D goes out and gets two three and outs and our offense can barely muster a first down. In the first 2 ½ quarters, LSU’s offense definitely didn’t look like it was part of the #1 team in the nation. Jefferson played poorly (but kept getting chances…), making a few questionable decisions, namely not throwing the ball away properly, or at all. The INT he threw was a drive killer and totally unnecessary.

Psssttt…

Don’t tell anyone, but I truly believe LSU will be even better next year. We’ll wait and see who jumps ship too early (a la Stevan Ridley) but with just a few key losses, and very capable replacements (if not upgrades in some places), LSU has built up a squad that should be solid for years to come.

Game Changer

O, there you are Mathieu. I’ve missed you, man, how’ve you been? TM’s absence from big plays had a welcomed return Saturday, with a game changing punt return for a TD. Down 14-7, and a struggling offense, we needed a big score that wasn’t scored by the offense and TM delivered. He wasn’t quite done…his patented strip later in the game took the life out of the Hogs.

Big Score before the Half

Only Mathieu’s punt return was bigger than his strip late in the first half. With the Hogs driving to score to end the half, TM strips the RB, giving the Tigers the chance to increase their lead before halftime. After the big defensive play, I wondered if our offense could actually execute a 2-minute drill and come away with points. They did, very well, and at a critical time. Kudos. Nothing like scoring right before the half ends, only to get the ball back to start the 3rd quarter!

O My…

Our defense is so damn good. There hasn’t been one team that has been able to play their game against us. Saturday, LSU’s defense put the clamps on a high scoring offense. One TD and a field goal…that’s it. We only allowed 10 points to the best offensive team in the SEC (defensive scores don’t count against the D). Um, that’s freakin incredible.

They pressured the QB with just the front 3 or 4, sometimes blitzed, and constantly harassed Tyler Wilson. LSU only had to rush the lineman because the downfield defense was so good, Wilson had no where to throw and eventually the lineman caught up to him. There were a few wide open receivers, and those 2nd and 3rd “and longs” we allowed, but overall just a stifling, fantastic performance.

Tyler Wilson

I really expected him to put up more than 10 pts. Grant it, he didn’t have much time and we’re awesome, but I wasn’t so impressed. Best four receivers in the country…really, who? High flying attack – grounded. His biggest weapon was his feet, where he scrambled for a few big gains.

Toeing the Line

On Arkansas’ biggest play, a 60? Yard run after a short pass, should only have been a 15 yard gain, at most. Actually, it should have gained just a few yards, but after missing the first tackle, the Ark player took off down the sideline. But, in my opinion, the runner stepped on the line – TWICE. Ah well, at least they reviewed it, but I’d like to see the zoomed in view, b/c I’m not sure how they could NOT see him step out.

FUMBLE

Let’s see that again in an instant replay…and so we did, and so it worked. Late in the half, as Arkansas starts a march downfield, the Tigers come up with a loose ball that was originally ruled down. An effective use of instant replay showed that the Ark runner lost the ball just before hitting the ground. We’ll take, that, thank you very much.

Ford’s fumble was bizarre, and untimely. Not much you can do with a helmet on the ball, and I was glad Coach Miles didn’t send Ford to purgatory for the fumble. Of course it did suck that it was his first carry, but he was back on the horse shortly thereafter and had a few nice runs.

Mingo

This guy is a freak. The entire D Line did a great job pressuring Wilson, but Mingo’s speed is an incredible weapon. He’s running by lineman and wreaking havoc in the back field. As we have one and possibly two more passing teams, his name will be called more and more.

Running Game

LSU’s running game flat wore out Arkansas. That Hilliard kid is really special. And everyone else that touched the ball had some good, tough runs. Even Jefferson got in the act for a score. No team has been able to keep up with this group for 60 minutes and in each game, the opponent’s defense is visibly worn down and our RBs just keep churning. Fresh legs, deep in the game, and now, deep in the season is critical…and we are fresh.

O Line

I’ve given these guys a lot of flack, but they played really well against Arkansas. A few break downs in protection were over shadowed by nice creases for our army of running backs. I know the Ark defensive front isn’t the best, but I still felt it was the O line’s best performance this year.

Wide Outs

As good as our run game is, I’d like to see our wide receivers really torch some teams. They can do it, no doubt, we just don’t “need” it. This 2011 group’s MO is run, but I think next year will bring more variety. When they’ve gotten the ball they make plays, and the yards after the catch is amazing. I’m glad we haven’t needed them but it would be fun to see them get after it.

Just Kickin It

Our kickers are really good. I don’t want to jinx anyone, I know how those kickers are, but they are solid and very reliable. Now, I hate have to “settle” for FGs, as a general rule, but since it’s part of the game, I’m glad our guys are solid.

Jefferson

Didn’t play so well. Really, he didn’t. He was 18-29…ok, he had the one long run, but made some poor decisions and either lacked focus or took his eye off the ball on a few snaps. And the ridiculous flip over Ware as he is falling down – WHAT THE HELL? I know his stats were good, but as a senior and with so many starts under his belt, some of the decisions are inexcusable.

Hospitality

Special thanks to folks who invited me to watch the game with them. Doubt they’ll ever do it again, but I appreciated the good food and good company.

Petrino

“F U, MF?” Really? Over a field goal? Wash his mouth out with soap. Look up the clip...Petrino pointed and cursed out Miles after kicking the field goal on 4th down with 5 min left. He was up 21 against a high powered offense, with 5 min left and 3 time outs…you have to put points up. Even our offence put up 21 points in about 5 minutes earlier in the game, and if we can do it so could a much more explosive Arkansas offense. Just a few more points to widen the gap made everyone feel better. Last week , Miles knelt on the ball with 4 min left, but he was up by loads more against a far inferior offense and still caught flak. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t, right Les?

I don’t have the stats, but I have a feeling that being a coach of a spread offense, Petrino has scored often and late against many teams throughout his career. But that’s totally speculative.

Handshake

Petrino’s pissy-ness continues at the handshake where he didn’t even look at Miles, then either said something, or just was an a$$ to Miles, causing Miles to turn around and say “wow.” These guys definitely didn’t forge any friendship today.

Why We are #1

Defense, special teams, and running backs. Ultimately, it’s the depth in all three areas that make this team so good. You’ve got skill, sure. Tons of speed, yep. But it’s having both of those, in your 2nd and 3rd teamers, that makes this team so good. These guys are pretty fresh, mostly healthy, after a 12-0 run, because they never have a chance to wear out. The rotation of players is awesome.

Georgia Dome

Should be a good game against Georgia. Much like the Arkansas game, with a pretty good offense for UGA but with a better defense than the Hogs fielded. I see this game as being very similar to the last one…our defense grounds an otherwise potent air attack and our offense pounds the ball until UGA’s defense is gassed and we can have our way with them. Ball security will be key on offense for us.

Rematch

Say it ain’t so! All indicators point to an LSU v. Bama rematch, regardless of the outcome of the SEC Championship game. I don’t want to play Bama again. We beat them once, that should be enough. I also really just don’t want to play a team we are so evenly matched with for a second time…with so much on the line. I do agree that they are probably the second best team in the nation, so #1 v #2 should play, but we ALREADY proved we are #1 head to head. So, if Bama beats us, we would be tied 1 to 1 for the year, but they win the NC? Not good. Come on OK State!

Fans @ Odds

So, I’ve tried to be positive in my blog to this point, because, folks, we are undefeated, and by far the best team in the nation. I am an LSU fan, and I’ve always bled purple and gold. I am not a fair weather fan, though I do curse sometimes more than others. I do not believe that it makes me a bad fan when I have negative comments about coaching decisions or player’s actions. I’m not going to pull the “everyone is entitled to their opinion” card here because, since this is my blog, and it’s all an opinion (mine) and I understand that all may not agree. Warning: I do jump around a lot below.

I was very disappointed in Miles’ decision not to play Jarrett Lee more in the fourth quarter. It’s senior day, and the guy that led the Tigers through the first half of the season should have gotten more love from the coach. It’s not like we weren’t up 21 already, and it’s not like he had to do anything more than handoff to the horses, but to put him in for the victory formation is a slap in the face. My cousin, Kurt, commented that he envied Lee for getting the honor of running out the clock. While I agree the position is enviable, as a former athlete it’s only honorable if you’ve led your team to that point…only then is the kneel down sweet. To get in only to run off a few seconds and then take the knee is nothing more than mop up duty. If I were Lee I would have given LSU the finger two weeks ago and moved on in life. But, he’s earned that championship ring by being the ultimate team player, so I can’t blame him for staying.

The dissension among the fans is so sad. On FB, there are those that believe, as I do, that Lee is getting the shaft. There are those that believe that if we’re winning, who cares who plays QB? I do. It’s because I care that I feel the way I do. I honestly think most of this grumbling among the fans could have been avoided if Miles would have put Lee in on the second to last drive, rather than only the last drive. O sure, Miles said he “intended” to play #12 earlier but it didn’t work out…and why not? Had Miles given Lee at least the second to last drive too, I would have celebrated the big win by visiting with friends, instead of arguing my side via FB. I really hate FB.

So, why do I feel Lee should get another chance? Why not? The guy did nothing wrong. Yes, he threw an INT at Bama, but Jefferson threw one Saturday, along with some other poor decisions and fumbled snaps, and yet he never comes out. It’s also because I don’t think Jefferson’s a great QB. So, you have two “good” QBs, with different skill sets, neither is “great” but both have played well. So, other than injuries, or say, I don’t know, suspensions, why play one over the other? 2+2 = 1 – NOPE (Two #2 Qbs doesn’t equal one #1 QB).

My extreme dislike for the Jordan Jefferson show doesn’t have much to do with his off the field issues. Yes, I think, as the supposed “leader” of the team, sneaking out was a knock against him, and I know he paid a price with the suspension, but I have been critical of this guy way back to last year. He is a gifted athlete but if a play doesn’t work out exactly as it’s drawn up, and he’s forced to improvise…forget it. He’s terrible under pressure and he tends to hold on to the ball way too long and does not know the concept of “throw it away.” Luckily our defense and special teams help in the scoring, taking away the pressure of critical game management decisions because we all know how disastrous he is in those situations.

So, let’s use both situationally…right? This game started with some Jefferson option plays. But by and large the Tigers just played smash mouth football. Do I think Jefferson’s skill set was required to win this game? No. Lee is just as capable of winning with the same plays Jefferson ran. The game didn’t call for Jefferson’s skill set. Miles did. And, in my OPINION, unjustly so. Lee deserves a chance to play. I can’t imagine he will be mentally ready to play if we really need him.

Lastly, I really hate that LSU seems to be on the bandwagon of recruiting for talent, regardless of character. College football is a place where boys are molded into men. Where they should be guided and taught valuable life lessons. Those lessons should not be absolution and no accountability for your misguided actions. They should not be allowed to let your team down and show no remorse. On the field I think Coach Miles teaches valuable lessons – you screw up, get back out there…unless you’re Jarret Lee, of course.

Even non-football fans are outraged over Lee’s relegation to the back-up role, after his valuable play early in the year. That’s not good for LSU.

Prediction

We’re going to the SEC Championship!!! Woo Hoo! Georgia Bulldogs on the horizon. I’m happy for Mark Richt because I think he’s a good coach. It’s a shame we’ll have to put a halt to their good season. LSU wins this game. Similar team to Arkansas, and I still think LSU prevails…there’s no stopping us from invading New Orleans for the Nat’l Championship. LSU 34, Georgia 13. 13-0!!!
